SO you’ve decided to take on cat children — CONGRATS. Prepare for all the frustrations of human babies, but blessedly compressed into a mere half-year childhood, but also amplified by kittens’ ability to climb any surface or jump over any gate. But also kittens are much cuter than human babies.

Emotional approach to parenting kittens

To my surprise, raising kittens accidentally taught me how to interact with human children. My cat parenting experience had almost complete overlap with my friends’ young-human parenting experiences and developmental milestones, minus the diapers, tuition, and long timeline. I socialize my cats with new people, I teach them about verbal and nonverbal communication, I try to understand their needs and help them communicate better about their needs, etc.

My article on relating to cats applies here, w/ the caveat that my cattens are the first young beings I have raised from scratch.
